It's been a big week for Francis. On Tuesday he went to the doctor for his 4-month vaccinations which went better than last time. Francis didn't get a fever, but he did sleep from 9pm to 7am the next morning without waking, even to eat. The poor baby was exhausted, but Francis made sure to catch-up on his wakefulness later in the week. On Thursday, he was awake from midnight to 3am, and then from 4:30am to 6. Nothing seems to get Francis to sleep besides rocking him for hours, but this can't go on forever. With nothing else left to try, on Friday Francis was left to cry-it-out until he fell asleep. The poor baby screamed for 75 minutes, and then hiccupped in his sleep for another hour. However, on Saturday night he fell asleep in 5 minutes! It's like we found his reset button. He seems to have relapsed tonight, but we're hopeful that he's changing for the better.

Francis has some impressive 4-month statistics: he's 15lbs 9oz (63%), 25.5" long (73%), and his head is 42cm (44%). From the pictures below, you can tell he's getting sturdier, and that he does not have a disproportionately small head on a long, fat body. We bought a Breathable Bumper for the crib to contain Francis's limbs. About 7" of snow fell last Friday and Francis could tell something was different when we went outside.

We assembled the Johnny Jump Up, but Francis has no idea what to do with it. When you're sitting down and holding him, he jumps and tries to throw himself over your shoulder, but after 30 minutes he still couldn't figure out what to do.

old blue-eyes

It's been a good couple of weeks for Francis who is developing fast. On Jan 10th he became a little Episcopalian. By Monday the 11th, he was rolling from his back to his belly and then his belly to his back. By the 13th he was wearing Size 3 diapers. He's still driving us crazy by not sleeping terribly well, and wakes up between 3 and 6 times every night. However, for the 6th night in a row when he goes to bed at 8pm, he stays asleep for at least 3 hours and recognizes it's bedtime.

Jess and Will decided they were being silly by letting a 4-month old baby hold them prisoner at home, and on Friday successfully went to a Mexican restaurant (although Jess had to hold Francis in her lap and eat). Francis has been using his hands more, including sucking on them and slobbering everywhere. Francis probably ends up eating a lot of fuzz accidentally.

Francis was recently loaned an exersaucer (thanks Emmie!) which he's fascinated by, although he doesn't know quite what to do in it.

100 Days Old

Francis turned 100 today and celebrated by grabbing the owl on his vibrating chair for the first time. Francis follows a regular schedule of eating, napping, and playing, and is becoming more independent and animated every day. While he still frequently demands to be held, he is starting to use his hands more and hopefully will be able to entertain himself soon. Francis drools constantly now and has taken to wearing a bib. The hokey pokey is a new favorite song. Below are some pictures from our recent trip to Columbia with friends and family. Francis can be seen wearing an outfit Will wore as a baby, posing as a shepherd, and enjoying some gifts.
