Chompers

Francis had several adventures this week. On Monday he cut his first two teeth. He's not fond of me sticking my finger in his mouth to check on their development, and reacts like a squid by ejecting a fountain of drool to distort my view. However, it's possible to see them in the first and third pictures below.

Today Francis had his first baby-sitter, our friend Mary Kathryn, so that Will and I could go to the movies. Francis didn't mind a new person and it probably does him good to see new people.

Francis is proudly showing off his new overalls (thanks, Samantha), and his Valentine's Day giraffe (or is it a cow?) from Grandma Susan.

Don't let the outfit hypnotize you

It's been an exciting couple of weeks for Francis who is now 4 1/2 months old. He's getting strong enough to almost sit-up on your lap and can be propped up to sit by himself. You can't take your eye off him as he rolls effortlessly around the floor. He enjoys rolling around his crib and uses the bars as steps to push off from, but he still manages to get himself stuck in the corners head-first and needs assistance getting out. Francis has been sleeping a lot better and more predictably at night which seems to give him a more pleasant temperment during the day. He's able to stay awake for longer periods during the day, so we need to figure out a new nap schedule. Francis prefers sleeping on his stomach now, which should help his bald spot recover. Instead of thrashing his head in his sleep and rubbing his hair off, now Francis rubs his nose into the sheets. It looks bad but we figure he knows what he's doing.

We've tried giving Francis rice cereal several times, and while he opens his mouth for the spoon, he still has that reflex that pushes food out. Francis is looking forward to the long weekend and plans on watching some of the Olympics (skiiing and snowboarding, but not figure skating).
